Use the below example to clarify the differences:  

Team privileges only   VS  Direct User/Basic access level and Team privileges



Prerequisite: 

  • Security role Demo has READ and CREAT privileges for the Account entity.
  • User A has no other security role but this Demo security role only.

 

Team privileges only

Direct User/Basic access level and Team privileges

Common

·        Can read:

o   team owned Account records

o   records which are shared with team.

·        Can read:

o   team owned Account records

o   records which are shared with team.

Difference


·        Cannot create the user's own Accout record.

·        If create new Account record, the owner must be the team.

 

·        Can create the user's own Accout record.

·        If create new Account record, the owner could be the team or the user.
